How to Single Crochet

On to Single Crochet and a quick beginner project Almost every pattern (remember I said almost) every pattern uses a single crochet (sc). Begin by ch (chain) 11, Row 1: insert hook into 2nd chain from hook, yo (yarn over) pull through chain. You now have 2 loops on your hook, yo (yarn over) pull through both loops on your hook. You did it !!!!! Insert hook into next ch, yo pull through ch, yo pull through both loops on hook. Notice the abbreviations I used in the last sentence, this is how a pattern is written. Continue across the ch to the end, you should have a total of 10 sc. Row 2: Ch 1, turn ****make sure to turn the work away from you*** , do not skip any stitches, insert hook into last sc made , yo, pull through (now you have 2 loops on hook) yo pull through both loops on hook. Sc across remaining stitches, you now have a total of 10 sc for your second row.

Here is a super quick and easy pattern to practice all you have learned so far and learn how to work in rounds. Size J hook Small amount of worsted weight yarn (red heart) Stitch marker (you can use a piece of yarn, different color than what you are using) Ch 21, sc in 2nd ch from hook and in remaining 19 ch, now working down other or opposite side of ch, sc in next 19 ch. Total of 39 sc. Place marker in 1st sc. Rows 2 – 8: sc in next 39 sc, move up marker. Row 9 : sl st in each sc end off To end off in crochet you complete the last stitch of your pattern or row, now yo pull through the loop on your hook (like you do for a chain) pull the loop to enlarge it, then cut leaving a tail. With your crochet hook or a yarn needle weave the tail, hiding it , into your piece. Feel free to come post in our forums what you just made 🙂
