A great way to get the younger generation interested in knitting One of the first things that really fascinated me about knitting was the I-cord aka Idiot cord. For the life of me, I could not do it, I tried and tried and to this day, I still have a hard time using my needles to make one. Yes the truth is now out, the one thing in knitting that supposedly even an idiot can do, I can not !!!! Well thank goodness for the inventor of the Knitting Nancy or spool knitting. Some of us have been using one for years but really had no idea what it was called and what in the world we were going to do with that long cord after we were finished. You can easily make your own or purchase one that resembles a doll. Thanks to modern technology we now have, The magic cord maker that will crank out a cord faster than you can knit one. There is also a Wyr knitter that uses jewelry wire instead of yarn to make a cord. I myself still prefer to just use my Knitting Nancy and take my time. For me, it is almost like a relaxing therapy to just sit and not have to think or count. My son found this to be a very fascinating thing to do. This is one of the best things to get them interested in crafting. It is something they can do, they will see results fairly fast, helps them with their coordination, and in my humble opinion, boost their self confidence. It can also be a bonding experience. Take a look at Waynes this and that Knitting Nancy page here you will find just about everything you have ever wanted to know or didn’t know until now, about Knitting Nancy. I really like the idea for the school safe Knitting Nancy so there is a good chance that we will see it being done in school again or if you have the time, this would be a great way to volunteer at your local elementary, middle, or high school. There was a site , I Fancy Knitting Nancy Official Website. Yes a site for the Secret Society members of Knitting Nancy users, but it is no longer active :(. I hope this will encourage you to get your Knitting Nancy out and use her again. It really is fun.
