A triangle of simple crochet helps keep your locks in place on breezy days on shore or at sea!
J. & P. COATS “KNIT-CRO-SHEEN”: 2 balls each of No. 76 Robinette and No. 135-C Tango.
Milwards Steel Crochet Hook No. 2/0 (double zero).
A piece of Art Foam Sheet, 1/8 inch thick.
GAUGE: 2 V sts = 1 inch;
4 rows = 1 1/2 inches.
Use 1 strand of each color held together throughout.
KERCHIEF Starting at point with 2 strands as directed, ch 5. 1st row: Dc in 5th ch from hook to form a sp. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: In sp just formed make (dc, ch 2) twice and dc-3 sps. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: In first sp make dc, ch 2 and dc-V st made; (V st in next sp) twice-4 sps. Ch 5, turn. 4th row: Make a V st in each sp across-5 sps. Ch 5, turn. There is 1 sp more than on previous row. Repeat 4th row until piece measures 13 inches from point to center of last row. At end of last row ch 3, turn. Mark each end of last row.
BAND 1st row: Make a V st in each sp across, then dc in 3rd ch of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. 2nd row: Skip first 2 dc, V st in each sp across, dc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row until piece from markers measures 3 1/2 inches. Ch 1, turn.
Next row: Sc in first 2 dc, sc in next sp, * sc in next 2 dc, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last dc, sc in top of turning chain. Ch 3, turn. Following row: Skip first 2 sc, V st in back loop of next sc, * skip next 2 sc, V st in back loop of next sc. Repeat from * across to within last 2 sc, skip next sc, dc in last sc. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row of Band until piece measures 3 1/2 inches. Next row: * Sc in next 2 dc, sc in next sp. Repeat from * across, ending with sc in last dc, sc in top of turning chain. Break off and fasten.
TIE (Make 2) Starting at point with 2 strands as directed, ch 5. 1st row: Dc in 5th ch from hook to form a sp. Ch 5, turn. 2nd row: In sp just formed make dc, ch 2 and dc-2 sps. Ch 5, turn. 3rd row: Make a V st in each of Ch 3, turn. 4th row: Repeat first row of Band. Ch 3, turn. Repeat 2nd row of Band until piece measures 7 1/2 from point to center of last row. Break off and fasten.
Press through damp cloth. Fold band in half; place foam between folded Band. Sew Band in place along sts of marked row. Sew sides of each Band together, then gather these edges in to measure about 1 1/2 inches. Sew straight edge of Tie to each gathered edge of Band.
