Before we cast on, let’s figure out how many ROWS we will need to reach our RAGLAN length. _____________ Rows per inch (B) X Raglan length (D) __________ (measure from collar to underarm or use your favorite sweatshirt) = __________ (R) Rows needed to complete the top portion of sweater.
Let’s Cast On
*** After you complete the neck shaping you will need a Beginning row marker, place your odd color marker last. ***
With your larger size 16” circular needles and your 4 markers Cast on ________ Right Front Stitches (N) , 1 Increase stitch (K) , place marker, 1 Increase stitch (K), __________ Sleeve Stitches (J), 1 Increase stitch (K) , place marker, 1 Increase stitch(K), __________Back stitches (I) , 1 Increase stitch (K) , place marker, 1 Increase stitch (K), 1 Increase stitch (K), __________ Sleeve Stitches (J), 1 Increase stitch (K) , place ODD COLOR marker, 1 Increase stitch(K), ________ Left Front Stitches (M) .
**We will be working back and forth in stockinette stitch (purl one row, knit one row) until we have our neck shaped. We begin with the purl row. All increases are made in the even number/knit rows**
Also be sure to count your rows.
Row 1: Purl all stitches
Row 2: Increase in first stitch, knit all stitches placing increases into the stitches before and after the markers, increase in last stitch.
Repeat these 2 rows until you have increased the ________ Number of Total stitches needed for Right and Left neck shaping (P) For example if your (O) number was 10 you will need to have increased 5 stitches on each side (right and left or you can think of them as the first and last stitches)
Purl one more row. Do not turn, Now cast on the ________ Number of stitches to cast on AFTER neck shaping (Q) . We now slip all the stitches up to the marker (this should be the odd color marker, if it isn’t remember you can “fudge” ) from your left hand needle onto your right hand needle. Leaving a long tail, cut yarn. You have just successfully:
1. Figured all your necessary numbers.
2. Shaped the Neck
3. Joined to start your circular knitting.
CONGRATULATIONS
