Raglans Lesson #6

Making sure to continue to count your rows (everytime you come to your odd color marker, you have completed a row), you will now be knitting ONLY, unless you are using a certain pattern, NO MORE purling.

With knit side facing you, slip the odd color marker to the left, join yarn to the next stitch (it is the one on the right of the marker you just slipped to your left needle). Since this is your EVEN number row, you will begin by increasing. You knit around and now increase only in the stitches that are before and after EVERY marker.
Once you get to your odd color marker, just knit the next row (no increases)

Continue to place increases on the Even number rows and knit plain on the odd number rows until you have your _____________ Rows per inch (B) X Raglan length (D) __________ (measure from collar to underarm or use your favorite sweatshirt) = __________ (R) Rows needed to complete the top portion of sweater. ***Because you are the designer if you wanted to give yourself a little extra room for the chest area, you can do a few more rows (the increasing and plain rows) here***.

**BE SURE TO MEASURE IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT RAGLAN LENGTH MEASUREMENT JUST CONTINUE TO KNIT UNTIL YOU DO***

Get out your stitch holders

We are now going to put our sleeve stitches onto stitch holders and continue knitting to create the body of our sweater.
Put all stitches in between your first and second marker onto one of your stitch holders, now place one of the markers (doesn’t matter which one) onto your NEEDLE, this will mark the beginning of all your future rows. We need to cast on 1 inch worth of stitches, ______________ Stitches per inch (A) , for the under arm. Without increasing, knit all the stitches up to the next marker. Again put all the stitches in between your third and fourth marker onto a stitch holder, cast on 1 inch worth of stitches, ______________ Stitches per inch (A) , for the under arm. Knit all front stitches, you should know be at the first marker.

Now we need to figure out how many rows we will need for the body:

Body length (E) __________ (measure from underarm to desired length of sweater)
minus 1 inch (this is for the ribbing, if you desire a 2 inch ribbing then you will need to subtract 2 inches or whatever your ribbing length is from this number)

X _____________ Rows per inch (B) = __________ number of rows required for the body of your sweater.

Continue knitting with NO increases until you reach your required number of rows for the body.
***BE SURE TO MEASURE IF YOU DON’T HAVE THE RIGHT BODY LENGTH MEASUREMENT JUST CONTINUE TO KNIT UNTIL YOU DO***

Waist Ribbing

Switch to smaller needles and:

Now we are ready to do the ribbing, **Remember at this point you will need to have your desired number of stitches for the ribbing you are using **

We will be using a knit 2, purl 2 ribbing.

Count your stitches make sure you have a number that is devisable by 4, if you don’t FUDGE.
Work one inch of k2, p2 ribbing. Bind off. End off

We are now ready to add Sleeves.
